It’s the middle of October, which means you should be thinking about how you’re going to carve your pumpkins, or if you don’t celebrate Halloween, you need to be putting up that blackout curtain so you can still watch tv and eat Halloween candy without answering the door for trick or treaters. Either way, I thought I’d put up a few Halloween related posts in the next week or so. First, here is a link to some thoughts on Christians celebrating Halloween that were written by one of my former professors at Asbury. Personally, I would love to see more Christians boycott Halloween because of their strong objections to limbo (not the party game, read the article) just because that would liven up the party.
Next, I thought I’d share my Halloween playlist off of the ipod. These are the spooky tunes we shake and jive to around the Croel household:
- This is Halloween – from The Nightmare Before Christmas by The Citizens of Halloween
A truly creepy song from this creepy movie soundtrack - Time Warp – from The Rocky Horror Picture Show by the cast
Just listen to it a few times and try to get it out of your head - Season of the Witch – by Donovan
- Werewolves of London – by Warren Zevon
The more I hear this song, the more I love it – and his hair was perfect…
- Li’l Red Riding Hood – by Sam Sham and the Pharaohs
Proving that Oldies can be creepy too - Riders in the Sky – by The Blues Brothers Band (off of Blues Brothers 2000)
Not a bad recording of this song from a terrible movie - People are Strange – by The Doors
- (Don’t Fear) the Reaper – by Blue Oyster Cult
Can’t hear this song without thinking about more cowbell - Jack’s Lament – by All American Rejects
Another song off the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack - Redwood Forest – by The Deep Dark Woods
I like this group – and this song has a haunting feel to it - I Put a Spell On You – by Creedence Clearwater Revival (Live from Woodstock)
- Great Pumpkin Waltz – by Vince Guaraldi Trio
Nothing like Charlie Brown music to take you back a few years - The Devil Went Down to Georgia – by The Charlie Daniels Band
- Season of the Witch – by The Blues Brothers Band featuring Dr. John
This is an excellent recording of this song – Dr. John’s voice is perfect
Alright – what songs do you like to listen to this time of year?
