A Mission from God?

I thought I’d post the February newsletter article on the blog for you. It’s like a sneak peak for those of you who pay attention to the blog. But it’s also a way for me to hear some feed back. Finally, it gives you an idea of what the conference was like that I just returned from. It was a great time to just focus on what it means to be the church and reach out with the message of the Gospel.

Matthew 16:18-19And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.Continue reading “A Mission from God?”

Baptisms

Calvin’s baptism

Our worship yesterday was different than what we normally do. Since it is the second Sunday of Christmastide, we gathered together for one worship celebration of what God had been doing.  We had a testimony from someone in the congregation who had been healed of cancer.  The cool thing was the way he talked about Christ being with him through the darkness of his sickness.  After that we had a presentation of bibles to our 4th graders, followed by 3 baptisms and Holy Communion.  It was a pretty awesome worship time. Simple Church

Through our Simple Church meetings we have come up with a few ideas that I sketched down into a diagram.  I thought I’d post the diagram and open us up for discussion here – we discussed it in group last Wednesday, and this coming Wednesday night one of our tasks will be the “what next?” question.  Anyway, here is the sketch and an explanation of what is going on with it. New short sermon series

The lectionary readings for the next three weeks include Gospel readings that cover all of Matthew 25, so we are going to go through Matthew 25. The continuity should be good. The problem is that the first two readings are challenging passages to preach from. Also, they deal with the return of Christ, which is something that is either misunderstood or not covered that much.

So, I’ve decided to come at the readings with the uplifting question, “Are you ready?”  Because who doesn’t like thinking about the end of the world? Continue reading “New short sermon series”

Renewing Spirits

Cal Meuzelaar

Well, another busy week has flown by and I haven’t been able to get back to the Leviticus question. I will – I have one post left on that, but it’s been one of those weeks.

I wanted to get this post up a couple of days ago.  On Tuesday our church hosted Cal Meuzelaar and his wife Mary in our parking lot.  They were in their pop up camper, so if you saw that and wondered what was going on, don’t worry, we put them through an exhaustive screening process before they parked there.  Cal is currently riding across the United States on his bike and his story is a fascinating one.  You can follow it here on his blog.
