Podcast: Good News part 1 – The B Team

This is the first week of a 4 week series on the “Good News,” that will hopefully help us to examine the Gospel and sharing our faith with others.  This week’s sermon is from Luke 4:14-21, and it’s titled “The B-Team.”  There is a spot in the beginning of the sermon where I showed a preview of the upcoming movie, “The A-Team,” you can find the trailer here.  I also shared a bit from some writing by one of my seminary professors, Dr. Stone.  Here is the blog entry I cited, and it’s worth reading some entries on his blog.

Podcast: Identity

This is the sermon for January 10 – the first Sunday following Epiphany.  The scripture reading is from Luke 3, and it tells of the baptism of Jesus, followed by the voice from heaven and descending of the Holy Spirit as a dove. I had some visuals for this sermon, focusing on identity by examining three things in scripture -fire, water, and spirit. I had 12 candles and a bowl of water. As Luke pushes us to focus on the revealed identity Christ, I think we are also challenged to find our identity in Christ.

Podcast: Called out of. Called in to.

This sermon was for our covenant service on January 3.  This was a combined worship service that gave us a chance to renew our commitment to Christ.  The scripture reading was from 1 Peter 1:13-21.  During this time of year many of us try to commit to ways we can live better.  For people of faith, our first priority is our relationship with God – we are called out of the world and into relationship with God.  If you are looking for some guidance on an intentional devotional life, here are some good guidelines.
