Podcast: Disciples part one – We are a Called people

The graphic for the discipleship series

The graphic for the discipleship series

This is the first sermon of four in a series on discipleship.  We are moving forward with some things we’ve done with the Simple Church, so now we are examining discipleship on Sunday and having a Bible study mid-week on discipleship and our process.  The Scripture is from the Gospel of Mark, chapter one verses 14-20, and it is the story of the calling of the first four disciples.  In this story, which the second evangelist keeps brief, we learn some important things as Andrew, Simon, James, and John are called and follow Jesus.

Calvin's baptism

Our worship yesterday was different than what we normally do. Since it is the second Sunday of Christmastide, we gathered together for one worship celebration of what God had been doing.  We had a testimony from someone in the congregation who had been healed of cancer.  The cool thing was the way he talked about Christ being with him through the darkness of his sickness.  After that we had a presentation of bibles to our 4th graders, followed by 3 baptisms and Holy Communion.  It was a pretty awesome worship time.
