A couple of links

I just want to put up a couple of links that you may find helpful – or not…

Do you listen to podcasts? If so check out coffeecup apologetics on itunes, or check this website here. It’s a great little program put on by the internet monk and it is conversational apologetics that deal with questions most people either have or have heard.

The second link is to an article in the Time magazine online section dealing with a new archaeological find. One of my professors from seminary is quoted here, Dr. Stone, and the article itself seems pretty important. It is another piece of evidence that backs biblical testimony. Pretty cool stuff.

Worshipping with kids

firebowlThis is a picture of firebowl at church camp. One of the things that strikes me most about church camp with the elementary kids is the intensity of the worship, especially at chapel. Firebowl is usually pretty cool as well, but it’s nothing like the jumping and excitement of morning chapel. There is something to be said about intense worship of God. It says something about who we are worshipping.

There is a cumulative affect of worshipping every day. It becomes a part of your routine and a part of your life. That combined with being in the woods, away from many distractions, helps me to think about and focus on God in a way that I don’t outside of camp (at least most of the time).

Where do you find worship of God comes easiest? What sorts of things help you to focus on God more often and more consistently? I think of the monastic lifestyle with its order and routine and although things could become too routine and taken for granted, there is also the opportunity there for a real intimate relationship with God. I wonder what changes we could make in our daily lives that would affect our worship gatherings on Sunday. It’s something to think about I suppose.

Return from church camp

We returned today from church camp and it was a wonderful and exhausting week.  I’ll write more about the week later, but for now I’ll put in one highlight.  Our camp theme was, “God’s Battle” and it was on Ephesians 6 – the full armor of God.  We had 6 kids who memorized the whole “armor of God” passage and that was cool.  It is amazing to hear the kids speak from memory the Word of God.  It is encouraging.

Just one more thing that I want to ask if there is anyone reading this.  We had a few people from Byron Center at the camp and that community has gone through some terrible tragedies in just two weeks.  Those who follow local news will know it, if not it’s on tv 8 or someplace like that.  Basically there have been 4 deaths, two students and then two teachers/coaches in the past two weeks.  I cannot imagine being a part of that school or community and trying to comprehend that.  So I am asking for prayers for that community and for those families involved.  There is a lot of pain right now.  Pray for God’s grace and mercy in this time of mourning and pain.

On the way to Church camp

My wife and I are off to church camp this coming week. It’s an interesting time. Church camp is simultaneously draining and exhilarating. There is nothing like worshipping with a chapel packed full of kids jumping, dancing, and singing praise songs. Descriptions don’t do it justice. You kind of have to be there to feel the building bounce on its foundations to really get the feeling.
Anyway, if you are reading this pray for us. God does a lot of amazing things at church camp. It is a special place.

A new post

This is nothing exciting.  I just figured I should do a little work on the blog, play around with how it looks and maybe try to get into the habit of posting a bit more.  We’ll see how that goes.
